Over the New year Holiday my wife and I visited San Juan Island, one of 377 ,and the largest in the San Juan archipelago. This island was the site of the longest running border dispute in the history of this country, the 'Pig Wars' which lasted over 25 years. English Camp and American Camp were not seperated by much distance but on property rights they were a world apart. The British were still trying to assert dominance over the fledgling colonists at this time. A pig from American Camp strayed into the garden at English camp and was shot and killed. Thus began the 'Pig War'.
